Carpet Stain Removal Secrets
Here at SJS, we have lots of Top Tips for removing those small stains that can spoil the whole appearance of your carpet. These methods work best when the stain is fresh, but if you have moved into a property with old stains on the carpet, try these methods first, then call us in to remove them using our #Texatherm process for you.
Remove Alcohol, Coffee, Tea, Urine Stains
Method: Blot up surplus spillage first, then use a Detergent Vinegar Solution, a little at a time. Always work from the outer edge of the stain inwards and frequently blot with dry cloths. See below for final rinse procedure
Remove Chocolate, Blood, Glue, Egg, Ice Cream, Milk, Vomit Stains
Method: Scrape up excess with a blunt knife first, then use a Detergent Solution starting at the outer edge and blot dry. Follow up with Ammonia Solution and blot dry again. See below for final rinse procedure
Remove Solids, Fats, Tar, Chewing Gum, Oil and Ointment, Shoe Polish Stains
Method: First, scrape up excess with a blunt knife, then use a Dry-Cleaning Solution followed by Detergent Vinegar Solution and blot dry. See below for final rinse procedure.
Final Rinse Procedure (applicable to all above methods of stain removal)
Method:
- Mix one-part white vinegar and four-part water,
- pour mixture into a spray bottle and spray over the stained area.
- Blot dampened area (do not rub) to remove excess moisture
- Spread white kitchen towel (stacked 6-8 sheets deep) or absorbent cloth over the affected area and place a weight, such as a telephone directory, on top.
- Leave overnight and repeat if necessary
Of course, without knowing the precise make-up of your carpet, or the age and the size of the spill, we can’t guarantee this will work, but it should solve most stains for you.
